We are adding an Estimating Manager to our new office location in Arizona, just outside Phoenix.

Our company is currently seeking an experienced skilled Senior Estimator or Estimating Manager, with experience in earthworks or trenchless construction, (or an estimator that is ready to take the next step in their career) based in the Phoenix, Arizona area or willing to relocate to the Phoenix area working out of our new facility in Casa Grande, AZ. Reporting to the VP of project leadership, this experienced, analytical individual will be responsible for estimating earthworks, and/or trenchless job requirements, interpreting and producing technical documentation and specifications and other project estimating tasks, described below.

You will:

  • Estimate civil earthworks, and trenchless project materials, technical specifications, employee hours, cost and any other job requirements for project.
  • Apply technical experience to interpret documentation, specifications, and design drawings.
  • Assist in the development of estimating plan to establish estimate/proposal strategies.
  • Evaluate, assess, and address situational factors such as complexities, conditions, and trends, etc.
  • Effectively analyze trenchless and earthworks project benchmarks and historical costs.
  • Assist in the development of estimating basis identifying utilized estimating methodologies.
  • Participate in presentation of estimates/proposals to corporate management and potentially participate in tender presentations to clients.
  • Identify potential risks, opportunities, and alternative solutions.
  • Perform material take-offs and systematically estimates costs involving: Fabrication, Manufacturing, and trenchless projects.
  • Obtain, review and maintain documentation of third party pricing.
  • Populate the necessary estimates/proposals documents such as clarifications lists, tender forms, work break down structures, rates schedules, etc.
  • Set up job and specifications as well as enter take-offs into Estimating Software.
  • Exports files from Estimating Software by project as well as each discipline by construction work package.
  • Assist in administering project estimating functions such work assignments, sequencing of priorities, etc. as required by the VP of Projects.
  • Attend and participate in site-visits, pre-bid meetings, post-bid meetings and preconstruction meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with other functions, engineering firms, and vendors to enhance project success; as required by the VP of Projects.
  • Ensure all documentation is relevant and available to support the development of estimates/proposals.
  • Track and record and post awards and rejections for continuous improvement and history tracking.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years in civil earthworks and/or trenchless (tunneling, directional drilling) construction estimating experience required.
  • Construction Engineering Technologist Diploma, Professional Engineer Designation or Geotechnical Engineer Designation or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of extensive, practical and successful experience in organizing and preparing industrial cost estimates/proposals for construction projects would be considered equivalent for the formal education requirement.
  • Intermediate to Expert computer skills: Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Estimating Software Microsoft Office Suite specifically Microsoft Project.
  • Thorough knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Thorough knowledge of estimating techniques and strategies.
  • Thorough knowledge of civil, earthworks, trenchless or pipeline construction.
  • Having excellent organizational and decision making/problem solving skills.
  • Ability to calculate mathematical extensions, analyze and understand trenchless crossing drawings, associated documentation, contracts, cost coding systems, work breakdown structures, etc.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and to interface and to communicate effectively with others, having strong interpersonal skills and self-motivation.

Work Environment

  • Mostly office-based duties.
  • Standard business hours Monday to Friday, occasional overtime will be required to meet project deadlines.
  • Travel to worksites and other office locations occasionally and may occur in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures.
